Skilling is a critical enabler within the ecosystem, as it bridges the gap between individual potential and economic opportunity, while also supporting entrepreneurship and industry growth. It equips individuals with the capabilities needed to participate meaningfully in evolving markets. India’s demographic profile presents a strong opportunity, with a growing working-age population, but realising this potential requires industry-relevant skills.
Today, the skilling ecosystem faces several systemic gaps that limit both employability and industry readiness. There is a clear supply demand mismatch, where training programs are not fully aligned with industry needs. There is also limited focus on self-employment and enterprise creation, creating an entrepreneurship gap, along with low participation of women which is an untapped opportunity. At the same time, as the economy evolves, there is a continuous need for upskilling to meet Industry 4.0 requirements.
Our skilling interventions are focused on building institutional capacity through partnerships with premier technical institutes, National Skill Training Institutes, and other defence establishments. We are setting up advanced labs across industry-relevant trades such as Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicles, Semiconductors, Automation and Robotics, and Renewable Energy enabling core competencies in areas like data analytics, IoT, automation, electronics, battery systems, and green energy.
These are further enabled through immersive learning tools like AR/VR, enhancing practical and experiential learning. The overall objective is to create a future-ready workforce aligned with evolving industry needs, while strengthening institutional training ecosystems at scale. We are now moving towards advanced and future-aligned upskilling as well as pre-skilling to facilitate a strong foundation for learning, inclusion, and early capability development.
