Scientific research creates knowledge, but its true potential is realised when it translates into solutions that address societal and industrial needs. Translational research bridges this gap by transforming findings into technology, products and solutions that benefit society. This requires an ecosystem where researchers, innovators, start-ups and industry have access to advanced infrastructure, collaborative platforms and opportunities to develop technologies from concept to application.
We have partnered with IIT Delhi to strengthen its research and innovation ecosystem through specialised facilities in biotechnology and smart manufacturing. The initiative aims to create shared infrastructure that supports translational research, entrepreneurship, skill development and technology under one integrated ecosystem.
Working closely with IIT Delhi, we established two specialised facilities, a Bio-Incubation Facility and a Smart Manufacturing Lab, to strengthen every stage of the innovation journey, from scientific discovery and prototype development to product validation and commercialisation. The Bio-Incubation Facility provides industry-grade scientific infrastructure for biotechnology, diagnostics, biomedical devices and translational healthcare research, enabling innovators to develop, test and refine technologies within a shared ecosystem.
Complementing this, the Smart Manufacturing Lab integrates advanced manufacturing, automation, robotics, digital fabrication and Industry 4.0 technologies, providing an end-to-end platform for rapid prototyping, product development and engineering innovation. Together, these facilities create an enabling environment where academia, start-ups and industry collaborate to accelerate technology development and build future-ready skills.
The initiative has strengthened IIT Delhi's capacity to advance translational research by creating shared infrastructure that bridges research, enterprise and industry. By reducing dependence on external facilities, the laboratories enable faster technology validation, interdisciplinary collaboration and seamless progression from laboratory research to real-world applications.
The Bio-Incubation Facility is expected to support over 400 students, researchers, start-ups and MSMEs annually, incubate nine start-ups and facilitate industry partnerships that accelerate technology commercialisation. The Smart Manufacturing Lab complements this ecosystem by strengthening advanced manufacturing capabilities, supporting rapid prototyping and equipping innovators with practical skills in emerging technologies. Together, the facilities are nurturing a collaborative ecosystem where research is translated into impactful solutions, start-ups are empowered to scale innovations and future-ready talent is developed to address evolving societal and industrial needs.
