Cancer continues to be one of the most pressing public health challenges in India, with a steadily rising burden and an increasing need for timely diagnosis and treatment. Access to advanced cancer care remains concentrated in a few specialised institutions, leading to high patient inflow, overcrowding, and delays in treatment. For many patients travelling from across the country, these delays can significantly impact outcomes, particularly when timely intervention is critical.
Institutions like Tata Memorial Centre and its allied facilities play a pivotal role in delivering specialised cancer care. However, existing infrastructure is often stretched beyond capacity, highlighting the urgent need to expand and strengthen facilities. Bridging this gap is essential to reduce waiting times, improve access to advanced treatment, and ensure better patient outcomes.
Building a new facility for Radiation Oncology in ACTREC Campus, Navi Mumbai
As part of our cancer care initiative and ongoing collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre, we are supporting the development of a state-of-the-art radiation oncology facility, ICICI Foundation Block for Radiation Oncology, at the ACTREC campus in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Designed as a ground + 11 floors building along with two basements, the facility will be dedicated to delivering advanced radiation oncology treatments.
Spanning approximately 3.4 lakh square feet, this will be among the largest radiation oncology facilities in Asia. It will be equipped with advanced technologies including Linear Accelerators (LINACs), MRI and CT imaging systems and specialised simulators, along with integrated research and training facilities. The centre is designed to enhance treatment precision, expand capacity, and support comprehensive cancer care delivery, marking a significant step towards addressing critical infrastructure gaps.
The facility will significantly expand access to advanced radiation therapy, benefiting approximately 7,200 new patients annually. With 12 state-of-the-art LINACs, it will enable precise and effective treatment while minimising damage to healthy tissues.
In addition, it will support over 2 lakh radiation sessions each year, along with outpatient consultations and diagnostic services for around 25,000 new patients, helping reduce waiting times and improve access to timely cancer care.

This will also be utilised for education and training of medical, technical and paramedical staff that are urgently needed in the country to handle the rising burden of cancer. Needless to say, this will be a major boost to clinical and translational research capacity of the institution.”
