Sports have the power to transform lives by instilling discipline, resilience, teamwork and confidence among young individuals. For many students in rural and underserved regions, however, limited access to quality sports infrastructure and training often restricts their ability to realise their sporting potential.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), which provide quality education to talented children predominantly from rural areas, are home to numerous aspiring sportspersons. Recognising the need to create an enabling ecosystem for these students, we partnered with JNVs to strengthen sports infrastructure and provide opportunities for young athletes to pursue excellence in sports.
With the aim to promote a sporting culture at the grassroots, we have worked with JNVs by establishing and upgrading sports infrastructure across selected schools to create a conducive environment for training and skill development. The initiative includes the development of 79 facilities and provision of sports equipment across 13 sports like basketball, kabaddi, judo, volleyball, badminton, archery and likewise, enabling students to access quality resources within their campuses.
By creating dedicated spaces for practice and promoting participation in sports, the intervention aims to nurture talent at the grassroots, encourage physical well-being and empower students to compete at higher levels. The initiative also seeks to foster a culture of sportsmanship and holistic development among students.
The strengthened sports ecosystem is enabling students from rural backgrounds to access quality sporting facilities and pursue their aspirations with greater confidence. Improved infrastructure and access to equipment are enhancing participation in sports, with 16,900 potential annual beneficiaries, encouraging regular practice and supporting the development of athletic talent.
Beyond performance, the initiative is contributing to the overall growth of students by promoting discipline, teamwork, leadership and physical fitness. By investing in sports infrastructure at JNVs, the programme is creating pathways for young talent to excel while empowering them to emerge as future champions, both on and off the field.
