Till a few months ago young Savitri's existence was marred by growing anxiety regarding her family's (comprising six members) future. Although her father was employed as a daily wage labourer in a factory in Isnapur in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh state, his income of Rs 3500 just could not stretch to adequately cover the needs of his household. Savitri had been forced to drop out after her 12th standard examinations. But when her brother too suffered losses after taking some farm land on lease for a business venture she knew she had to step in. A teaching job at the local private primary school fetched Rs. 1000 per month, but it was not enough. Then Savitri came to know about STRIVE and enrolled for a three week course on Communication and Customer Handling and was placed in a BPO company immediately after the completion of the course. She now contributes Rs 3500 each month to the household. "I am proud to earn as much as my father", she says.
